Title/h x w: My Bacalhau Is Not Quite Done, 24" x 24"
Original Oil Painting
Part of Canadian Artist Victoria Manning’s Lost Somewhere In Lisbon Series.
About this one of a kind piece
'I roamed the streets of Lisbon for 6 months December 2017 to June 2018, I was always lost somewhere and it was a magical time'
I painted in a basement (cave) of an antique shop and created a series of 13 oil paintings. They were much different than all my other work (previously and to date). The history there had sunk deep into my bones, the patina of the facades, the meaning behind Fado and the damp Atlantic breeze made me a part of their culture, their way of life and the open arms of the Portuguese hospitality. This series shows the light and the darkness, the cobblestones and the small curving roads and hills. For some reason it made me miss home (Nova Scotia) in a way I had never felt before and started my thoughts to journey back to my homeland some day and settle somewhere by the ocean once again.
